Where in Spain should you spend a wild Stag party?

Stag-night revellers flying out of Heathrow often head to obscure towns in Eastern Europe that are as notable for their fondness of consonants as they are notorious for their acceptance of debauchery and drunken revelry, at least according to conventional British thinking. Though plenty of good times can be enjoyed on a shoestring in the old Soviet Bloc countries, there is much to be said for one of Europe’s sunnier destinations: Spain.

Spanish cities, towns and coastal resorts provide a treasure trove of opportunities for revellers to organise the wildest stag party. Already one of Britain’s favourite tourist destinations, Spain is blessed by warm, dry weather for much of the year. The country also has plenty to offer in terms of things to see and do. The question is, can a stag party be as wild in Spain as it is in, say, Slovakia?

In Benidorm, Barcelona, Madrid and Seville, not to mention island getaways such as Ibiza and Mallorca, the answer is a resounding yes. Spain is more than capable of hosting the wildest, most entertaining stag parties.

Benidorm is actually very popular among stag-party revellers from the UK. Sunny, dry and hot for much of the year, it is a haven for tourists who want to top up their tans by day and partyhard by night. The coastal resort’s 24-hour nightclub scene is complemented by several top restaurants, so pub-crawling stag parties should have no problem stumbling from one place to the next in search of food and drink. Benidorm is also surrounded by mountains and there are plenty of adrenaline-fuelled activities – go-karting, rock climbing and deep-sea diving – to keep the lads entertained during periods of relative sobriety.

It has been said that the majority of stag parties in Spain take place in Barcelona, so it is only fitting that the culturally diverse city is considered when choosing a suitable destination. Apart from an active nightclub scene, Barcelona is renowned for its architectural wonders, live-music venues, art galleries and exquisite restaurants. The city is a safe bet for more than just a wildstag party.

Madrid and Seville are also worth heading to in search of stag-party bacchanalia of the Spanish variety. Madrid is the capital of Spain, so visitors can expect a lot from this ancient city. While all-night bars and clubs can save the needs of revellers, daylight activities such as wine tasting, sight-seeing and paintballing can provide considerable fun. Seville has a wide range of options for stag party revellers, not one of whom is likely to turn down an offer to visit one of the city’s top water parks.

Although listening to live music in Barcelona or tasting the finest-quality wine in Madrid might appeal to the bridegroom, his stag-night companions are likely to crave less wholesome sources of fun and adventure. With this in mind, Ibiza and Mallorca provide everything the boys might need, not least an abundance of sun, sea, sand, surf and other pleasures.

Arguably the best places to enjoy a stag night in Ibiza are Ibiza Town and San Antonio, while Magaluf is the stand-out destination on the island of Mallorca. Although most tourist spots in Spain welcome monolingual Brits, learning a few handy phrases in Spanish can be useful when the party inevitably heads off course.
