Roulette – The Basics
Posted by Guest Blogger on Jun 25, 2012 in Blog, Casino | 0 commentsRoulette is a popular casino game played on a wheel. This wheel features pockets around the edge, each of which is labelled with a number from 1 – 36. The pockets are coloured red and black, alternating between the two. One pocket is green and has a 0 on it. The roulette dealer, also known as a croupier, will spin the wheel and then release a small smooth ball in the opposite direction to the way the wheel turns. He then waits to see where the ball will land, and players will have bet on this outcome, trying to predict either a specific number, group of numbers, colour of the pocket and many more possibilities.
There are certain differences between American and European roulette, the first being that the American roulette wheel has an additional 38th pocket, coloured green and labelled 00. Some of the possible bets are also different: in European roulette players can bet on a number of combinations of numbers as well as betting on either red or black, or odd or even. The roulette table which accompanies the spinning wheel will have a chart printed on it, on which players can place their bets. Chips are placed on sections of the chart which correspond with particular sets of numbers or certain pockets.
The game features two kinds of bets – inside and outside. Inside bets can be on a single number, or on up to six connected numbers to make what is known as a line bet. Outside bets include bets on high or low numbers, the lower set ranging from 1 – 18 and the higher range from 19 – 36. You can also bet on whether the ball will land on an odd or even number, or a red or black pocket. Players can even place bets known as dozens bets on groups of 12 numbers.
Your inside bets include your bets on the table, with these you can place a whole number, split or quarter it. This gives you 35/1, 17/1 and 8/1 respectively. These bets are much higher risk but carry greater rewards, meaning you can more than 10x your stake if your number lands
