Why it’s not Google’s fault

Recently, Google updated its algorithm, and many niche websites lost their rankings. People whose livelihood depended on Google traffic - mine included - saw their websites’ traffic plummet (almost) overnight.

As expected, the web publishing industry is furious with Google. Here’s what is tossed around:

  1. Google favors big companies now!
  2. Google AI stole my content and traffic!
  3. Google destroyed small web publishers.

I totally understand the frustration. But I’ve been through a similar situation two decades ago.
